My name is Jonathan Clarke and I'm a Full Stack Software Engineer based in Kent, England.

I work at Holiday Extras where I build things in the Trips space — helping customers find products relevant to their trip. I've been with the company for over 18 years across a unique career path!

🛠 Career Journey

I started at Holiday Extras back in 2007 as a Content Editor, working as a copywriter and merchandiser. Over the years I progressed through several creative roles:

  • Content Editor (2007–2011) — Copywriting & merchandising
  • Multimedia Editor (2011–2015) — Founded the in-house video & photography team
  • Multimedia Lead (2015–2022) — Managed a team of 11, running all video and photography production
  • Apprentice Software Engineer (2022–2023) — Completed Makers Academy apprenticeship, learned Ruby & web dev foundations
  • Software Engineer I (2023–2024) — Built the new trip-creation form, improved session-to-search rates by 50%+
  • Software Engineer II (2024–Present) — Leading feature development across teams

🎓 Education

I studied Multimedia Technology and Design (BSc) at the University of Kent (2002–2005). The degree covered video production, 3D modelling, and compositing. I was also part of the Live Music Society!

🎥 Side Hustles

Alongside my main role, I ran a freelance video production business for over 10 years (2011–2021) in Kent. I filmed weddings, corporate promotions, social media content, music videos, and much more — including content for Legoland!
